Okay, truth be told, I started wondering what happened to Instagram, and I, myself, am BORED to bits with insta. Though, I always like yours. This hit a chord, let's call it a C major chord for us music geeks, when you talked about produce and food. Same here. I think we jive on that subject. You have written so perfectly on what it feels like. I feel, I am always hopping from place to place. I just bought and sold my first and only house in one year, and getting rid of everything. i hope to see you soon! Love the stories, the writing, the insight. Well done my friend!!
Bretton, it's so good to hear from you! Did you sell the house in Sheboygan??? Dang, we need to catch up. But yes, you know more than anyone about what produce means about a place. I've been off Instagram, but I'll sneak back on there to keep better track of you so we can reunite in person. It will happen :) Thanks for all the kind words!
Lots of threads woven together here. Your sharing from the heart is inspiring, as is the intentional way you are living. Can’t wait to hang with you in Arizona.
Evocative and poignant post. I never considered my sojourns/residences in foreign places running away...it was always running to... to new experiences, sights, ways of living. And now that I've "settled down," and am weighted down with all the stuff a settled life requires (at least here in an American suburb), I still wonder if I can do it again somehow. I love how you tie in values to your thoughts here about where you might settle longer term. So many times the place we end up seems less intentional... thanks for a thought-provoking piece. And congratulations on completing a year of writing on Substack...that is something to celebrate!
I love "always running to" instead of "running away." I'm not sure where I got my running away idea from in the first place, probably a good thing for further examining. But to address your question, of course you can do it again! If you need a pep talk, I'm here for it. I got some inspiration from the book, Your Keys My Home. It's the story of a retired couple going nomadic. In any case, I think it's really interesting what you said about where we end up, being less intentional. I think you're right and I wonder why that is.
i love all of this - the introspection to outrospection is precious, earned through experiences and leave lasting references for the choices you are yet to make for new experiences. thank you for sharing all of it. so very inspiring as are you. #rockon
